1995 Quotes

In the 1995 season, at the request of engine suppliers Mugen-Honda, Martin Brundle and Aguri Suzuki shared the #25 Ligier. When Martin was rotated out for Suzuki, occasionally he commentated on the races for BBC alongside Murray Walker and Jonathan Palmer. This page will only show the quotations from races that are currently (legally) available, not least because I have no idea how many of those six races he did commentary on.

“I think Michael Schumacher’s confidence, for once, got ahead of him there.”

“Michael Schumacher obviously has got a sense of humour with that manoeuvre he tried to make around the outside of Damon [Hill]. That would have been extremely embarrassing if he’d have pulled that one off. It never really was an opportunity but it was fun to see him try.”

“I think they’re called Fortis because there appear to be about 40 of them. You keep coming across them every lap.”

“His car’s been an animal all weekend on old tyres.”

“Ferrari are asleep there.”

“Michael’s going to have to be very rude with these two.”

“Schumacher’s going to earn as much money next year as the rest of the drivers put together.”

“If Michael Schumacher gets out of his car at the end of this race without a bead of sweat on him I’m going to go and slap him personally.”

[Irvine suffers a right rear puncture]
Jonathan: “Martin, this is something which affected you back in Monza, if I recall correctly, and in that case you didn’t manage to get back to the pits without too much damage being done.”
Martin: “Yeah, but Eddie’s tyre’s only flat at the bottom. Mine came off the rim altogether.”
Murray: “Yours was flat at the top as well, Martin!”
[…]
Jonathan: “Yes, Murray, you’re obviously more technical than we thought!”

“I think this world championship will mean a great deal to Michael. I think he felt very much that the championship he won last year was under a cloud and discredited in some ways for all kinds of reasons, and I think he’ll put a lot of those things to bed now and he’ll be very, very happy with that.”
